What is a diamond's cut?
A diamond’s cut often refers to its shape—such as round brilliant, princess, oval or marquise—which defines its outline, facet styling and appearance of the diamond. The shape of the diamond is a contributing factor of the ring's overall style. Cut can also refer to one of the "Four C's": a graded measure of how precisely a diamond’s facets have been shaped and polished, affecting how beautifully it reflects light and sparkles.

What is a setting style?
Setting or mounting style refers to the way that the stones are held in place in the metal, such as by claw, channel or bezel settings for example. These settings are important as they not only affect the ring's appearance, but also have an impact on how delicate or durable the ring is.
What are the Four C's?
The Four C's—cut, colour, clarity and carat weight—are the key characteristics used to describe and evaluate a diamond. Cut determines how effectively it reflects light, colour measures the presence or absence of natural colour, clarity considers internal and surface inclusions, and carat refers to the diamond’s weight. Together, they define a diamond’s appearance, quality and value.
What are lab diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemical, physical and optical properties as natural diamonds. They are real diamonds with the same crystal structure and beautiful sparkle, as well as the same durability. Natural diamonds are mined from the earth, whereas lab diamonds have these growing circumstances replicated in a lab setting.
Should I buy lab or natural?
Both options have benefits to consider. Natural diamonds are formed under very unique geological circumstances, making them appealing for those who may value rarity and tradition. Because lab-grown diamonds are made under controlled conditions, they are often higher clarity and colour grades for a lower budget than their natural counterparts.
More common questions
What metal should I choose?
Most engagement rings are manufactured in 14k gold, but 10k and 18k are available. Whether you choose white, yellow or rose gold depends on personal style and preference. Consider also that white gold will require a bit more maintenance, with regular rhodium plating being required to upkeep it's brilliant white finish. Rose gold is also a bit softer due to the high content of copper in the alloy, and may not be ideal for very delicate styles.
How much should I spend on an engagement ring?
There is no “right” amount to spend on an engagement ring. Your budget should reflect your personal preferences and the qualities that matter most to you—whether that is a particular design, diamond size, or level of diamond quality. Traditional formulas, such as spending two months’ salary, are outdated and should have no bearing on your decision. The best budget is one that feels comfortable to you and allows you to choose a ring you will love without creating unnecessary financial pressure.
Should I insure my engagement ring?
The short answer: Accidents happen.
We always recommend informing you insurance provided of any larger jewellery purchase you make. We are always happy to provide Appraisal Certificates for any item you purchase with us. Some insurance policies are able to cover valuable jewellery under existing riders on your home or renters insurance, but some require additional coverage. Talk to your insurance provider about insuring your valuable jewellery purchases.
How do I find out my partner's ring size?
The most accurate way to determine a finger size is to have it measured in store, or provide a ring that fits the right for us to use as reference. We know it's hard to do either of those things without ruining the surprise so we are always happy to size the ring for you after it is presented.
